The Orange County High School varsity boys basketball team lost a disappointing Commonwealth District game Friday on the road at Mountain View.
After a week off from nearly notching their first AAA win at home against Riverbend, the Hornets traveled to Mountain View and came home on the short end of a 59-48 score.
The Wildcats opened the game by outscoring Orange 16-12 in the first quarter and built the lead to 30-23 by halftime.
In the third quarter, the Hornets outscored their hosts 11-8 to narrow the margin to 38-34 with eight minutes to play.
But down the stretch, the Wildcats (13-5, 9-3) outscored Orange 21-14 to pull away for a victory and send the Hornets home empty-handed.
Rahiem Cooper led Orange with 13 points, while Tyler Seal and Eric Washington contributed eight apiece. Jacob Pugh added five for Orange in the loss.
The Hornets (4-15, 0-13) host Colonial Forge Friday night and conclude the regular season at Stafford Monday.
