The planning commission voted 4-1 to table a recommendation to the Orange County Board of Supervisors on the "sunsetting" clause in the county's zoning ordinance.

The planning commission, after its first public hearing in May, voted to recommend approval of Walmart's SUP to supervisors. Last Thursday, they voted 4 to 4 after their second public hearing. The following evening, the planning commission voted once more, this time with a 5 to 1 vote to recommend approval to supervisors.

The third time might be the charm for a tourism corridor overlay district because two citizens have collaborated to reach a common ground, and develop a plan that could appeal to the conservation community as well as the building and development sector.
After studying the planning commission’s draft ordinance for a tourism corridor overlay two years ago, county officials delayed taking definitive action; and no tourism corridor design standards, or county roads, ever made it onto the ordinance books. But there is a new board of supervisors now, and a renewed discussion of the tourism corridor overlay.
